Concerning my bug report: http://bugs/php.net/?id=5099 (already followed it up on the sight) I was a total idiot in understanding a few things at the time I had submitted my bug report. It was my buggy thinking, not php. I apologize for not updating my bug report, and/or if any confusion had risen due to my report (I was busy and it slipped my mind) . Basically, I mis-understood the ./configure mechanism. The rpm-distro vs tgz-distro fhs slightly differ which made things a little more confusing. What happened was I ended up telling php to look into a different directory at configure time, resulting in a compile-time error. Manually editting the configure script was the simple solution and all is cleared up now. Thanks again, jamie ps anybody know what happened to http://php.codebase.org ??? disappear ??? pps I am urgent to know if php-4 supports multi-byte I/O (or how much of it, bugs? etc). Where can I find info on this subject? (couldn't find anything in the docs) I use postgresql as a backend to php3/web stuff. The package php-3.0.15-i18n.tar.gz supports multibyte very well with a feature that has the ability to set different types of char encoding for input and output in the php3.ini. Postgres also supports multibyte so this becomes pretty crucial for us living in Japan... e.g. (mechanism) SJIS string input (through forms, etc) -> converts strings to EUC (and store it in database) SJIS string output (connect to db, get results, etc) -> EUC strings get converted on output #---------#---------#---------#---------#---------#---------#---------# -- If somebody can help create a search engine for my room, I will call them a Saint...
