In the last email, which I never had a chnace to repsond to I was asked to clarify this error. If I install php4 under apache 1.3.11+ sometimes .htaccess based authentication works sometimes it doesn't. If it doesn't work it just defaults to a 401 error. No password dialog. The wierd thing is, it seems to work fine on my Production machines, and not my dev machines. I used a script to configure php/apache on all my machines so I'm sure its the same configuration. If I remove php from the apache modules on the machines .htaccess authentication doesn't work it starts working again. The same configure lines for both programs. My PHP 4.0.1pl2 configure line ./configure --with-mysql --with-gd --with-ttf --enable-freetype-4bit-antialias-hack --enable-xml --with-dom --enable-ftp --enable-versioning --enable-memory-limit --enable-track-vars --disable-debug --disable-inline --enable-trans-sid --with-apache=/usr/local/src/apache My Apache configure line ./configure --prefix=/usr/local/apache --htdocsdir=/home/httpd/html --cgidir=/home/httpd/cgi-bin --iconsdir=/home/httpd/icons --enable-module=speling --enable-module=rewrite --enable-module=so --activate-module=src/modules/php4/libphp4.a I have tried simpler lines, and I have the same results on the same machines. RedHat 6.x is what I am running everywhere. I hope this is specific enough. It started happening with php4 beta 1, php3 seems to be fine on these machines, but I can double check if you want. /Vince -----Original Message----- From: Bug Database To: vince@mha.ca Sent: 8/11/2000 10:56 PM Subject: PHP 4.0 Bug #5787 Updated: Apache based authentication doesn't work ID: 5787 Updated by: sniper Reported By: vince@mha.ca Status: Feedback Bug Type: Installation problem Assigned To: Comments: Status -> feedback. --Jani Full Bug description available at: http://bugs.php.net/?id=5787
