Yes, I know and I use it from 4.0.0RC... the simple LD_PRELOAD=libpthread.so before httpd sometime helps too... but it is very subtle... sometime it helps sometime it make things even worse... All this sounds like a black magic for me... To make sure that linking with libpthread does solve the problem and not only hides it we need to know why exactly apache crashes.
