I have the same problems... they happen every time I compile php --with-mysql=/usr or with oracle
support.
The problem is that both mysql client librrary (from official rpm) and oracle libs use
libpthread.so... Even
my simple "hello world" module causes apache core dumps if I link it with libpthread... So
the problem is
not related to php. It is a glibc2.1.3 bug... see discution on
http://www-gnats.gnu.org:8080/cgi-bin/wwwgnats.pl/full/1818
The workaround was several times mentioned on the list... just link apache binary with libpthread or
use
LD_PRELOAD=libpthread.so httpd to start apache. That way libpthread is never unloaded. Or if you can
recompile mysql libs without threads support as you never need it with current apache version (or
just use
--with-mysql instead of --with-mysql=/usr). For oracle libraries the only way is to use the
workaround.
