I would wait a few weeks for several reasons.
First, the SOAP specification is incomplete, IMHO. At the moment, you can
call methods on objects if you know in advance the signature (including
parameter names) of the desired method. Of course, a low level interface
where PHP users manually construct the envelope is possible without this,
but it would be much better if this were not necessary.
What is needed to make this operate better is for there to be an IDL which
can be used to determine the remote signature. Microsoft and IBM have both
been working on this, hopefully this will converge shortly.
Secondly, there are people working on a C/C++ implementation of SOAP for
Apache. This will be found at http://xml.apache.org/soap/. Once that
arrives, perhaps the PHP implementation could be a simple interface to that
implemetation. IMHO, this would be a wise approach given the pace at which
the SOAP specification has been evolving.
