For the new users the way it is now is more confusing which that bug report proves. And having every extension to be enabled only when desired is more logical and consistent than having these couple of exceptions there. They just confuse and propably sometimes are the reason for compile/installation problems, like mysql very often is, as people don't realize that it is compiled in even when they don't use --with-mysql. --Jani
