Thanks for you words. FWIW, I agree that htmlentities() should
go back to returning '. This is how htmlentities() has worked in
the past, and how one would expect it to work according to the
documentation.
However, I have to disagree with the idea of adding options to
htmlspecialchars(). I really don't see the need for a change to this
function. Perhaps when 4.1.0 comes out, and there is a new
"incompatibility list", the issue could be revisited. Would that be
acceptable to everyone?
NOTE: This is all my opinion and does not represent anyone else,
esp. not any other developer.
