DBM and safemode

Hi,
When using the DBM functions, safemode still checks the filename the users
supplies. This is not always the "real" filename (which sometimes has an
extra extension like .db/.pag/.dir) Does anybody know a good way to
determine what is used by which dbm implementation so the safemode check
can be corrected?
