Simply :
you have : clean RedHat 7, php 4.03pl1 in sources, compilers, libxml
2.2.10 from packages
(all original packages from Redhat CD ...)
All is ok.
When you compile php with dom, get this error : DOM module requires
libxml >= 2.0.
Nothing about zlib-devel .... I didn't know what zlib-devel is needed
for compiling DOM ...
That is all.
My idea is add some as check of --zlib-devel package to config.m4 in DOM
extersion.

I don't understand where the bug is mentioned?
Of course you need zlib-devel if you need to compile something that uses
zlib..and if you have compiled libxml with zlib, then you will need it.
And ./configure --help gives plenty of choices, e.g --with-zlib-path
--Jani

What was the FULL configure line you have used?
And what was in the config.log (in the end) ?
--Jani

If you have RedHat distribution and compile php4 with DOM XML, MUST be
installed package zlib-devel...
Without this package ./configure --with-dom finish with error : DOM
module requires libxml >= 2.0.
(libxml2 installed, tested with 2.2.3 and 2.2.10)
