I know how that goes. Getting all the pieces necessary into place

Well, if the build fails, then the update obviously shouldn't take
place. No reason we can't detect that happening, though.

Someone contributed one recently (as HTML), but it really should
just be generated from the SGML source. Of course, as long as you
can search the docs, an index is less relevant. It would mostly be
useful for printed versions of the docs.
