These and the other casts are to avoid syntax errors for the osxs parser,
it has a hard time with anything like struct->func(). For some reason it
has not occured to me to try it before, but these changes would be
unnecessary if a -traditional-cpp flag is used to compile. I never did it
because I don't know enough about autoconf to get it to detect the
platform and set the flag, and I had initially assumed (wrongly) that the
cpp meant c++.
