Isn't the <SCRIPT> tag only for client-side scripts? PHP is not a client
side language, but perhaps some day in the future it might be like Perl (but
that requires everyone to download the Perl plugin, and I doubt Microsoft
would consider adding PHP as a client-side scripting language to Internet
Explorer ;-).

True, but this would only apply to client-side scripts. Server side
scripting has no standards, and is up to the implementor. ASP uses <% and
%>, ColdFusion uses its <cfxxx> tags, and PHP supports <?php ?>, <? ?>, and
<% %> (if "ASP-style" tags are turned on).
