Edin and Jani pointed out an issue with openssl; streams assumes that if
openssl was enabled, that openssl is a staticly linked extension.
This isn't "so much" of an issue for unix, but on win32 it's a problem.
The problem is this: the socket support in streams needs to be able to
use SSL on-demand; sockets can be opened and then have SSL enabled or
disabled at a later time. To avoid duplicating code, main/network.c
includes the logic to handle SSL sockets.
This causes problems with linkage: if openssl is loaded at runtime,
phpinfo reports it's presence, but since it was not available at
linktime, SSL streams are not available.
Likewise, there are similar issues with ext/standard/fsock.c.
The best solution to this is to decouple them, but to do that properly
is going to take a bit of time. So, for PHP 4.3, does anyone have a
problem with requiring that openssl is built-in to PHP if people want to
use SSL sockets and streams?
Is it possible to do that under win32?
PHP 4.4 (or 5) will be able to work with shared openssl again.
