We use PHP at my work and I work very closely with the sys-admin on PHP issues and configuration. Removing support for the short tag all tegether would be one major step in making the life of the sys-admin a whole lot easier.hang on. I admin about a dozen boxes for various different people/companies and it has no bearing on anything vaugly sys-adminy. As such, no...removal of the short tag would have sod all effect on my job, apart from making it difficult when I had to edit every sngle php script on the damn system and get rid of the short tags
If the big question between to have or not to have short_open_tags is to impact on stability, then removing the option will cirtainly eliminate that instability in the future. Moving from an earlier version to version 5 is the perfect opportunity to instigate such a change since most scripts will need to be ported anyway. I cirtainly do not advocate any changes to the exisitng version of PHP. Lets be clear that it's version 5 that we're discussing.agreed, if this changes, version 5 at least. but I vote for no change
