Ah, I think I understand now. You want to set 'output_buffering = 0',
but, because that INI option is marked PHP_INI_PERDIR | PHP_INI_SYSTEM,
it's not possible to use ini_set().
Therefore, the remaining options are:
- Change the compiled default value for output_buffering to 0.
- Allow output_buffering to be set by ini_set().
- Specify 'output_buffering = 0' via the -D command line option
for run-tests.php.
- Pass a php.ini configuration file to run-tests.php using -C.
The first two options are not realistic.
I like the -D approach, personally, but that will only work if we
execute 'make test' and don't invoke run-tests.php directly.
The same applies to -C, except there is a fair chance that the php.ini
file that lives is found in the INI search path will be based on the
php.ini-dist file, which will set output_buffering.
Therefore, I think the best approach is to set output_buffering via
the -D option to run-tests.php from the 'make test' target and to rely
on the system's php.ini file for other (variable) things.
As an aside, it would be nice if we didn't have both php.ini-dist and
php.ini-recommended. We should just have a php.ini-dist, but that's
just my opinion.
