I also proposed a change to http://php.net/long2ip to reflect
the similar changes and remove 'proper address' in favour of 'a long integer
value'.

Very minor point:
In the page http://php.net/manual/en/function.ip2long.php
the description says:
"Converts a string containing an (IPv4) Internet Protocol dotted address into a proper
address"
and it should say
"Converts a string containing an (IPv4) Internet Protocol dotted address into a long
integer"
Shouldn't it?
