This sentence is (IMHO) more clear. (and understandable !)
Hope it will replace the incomprehensible sentence in the documentation.

realpath("/etc/this-file-does-not-exists"); used to return /etc/this-file-does-
not-exists on BSD systems.
as of 5.3.0 this is no longer the case.

last path component did not exist. " is completely meaningless. Please rewrite it !
