Oops...I was mistaken there...I just checked the configure script, and you
can use the single hyphen. And I totally missed the point of your message.

Just to confirm that I have done this right :-)
I used the
$ ./configure -with-apxs -with-mysql -with-enable-asp-tags
But the phpinfo() says that
asp_tags
Local Off Master Off
