php is an interpreted language. It's parsed each time the script is read,
and must be syntax checked. What would it do if it encountered an error
while parsing a script, was told the file was syntactically correct, and yet
it's not?
In compiled languages like C, when you compile you get a machine readable
binary, but that's not the case with php. The power of compiled languages is
that the parse, and machine instructions are done only once, but machines
are so fast these days that parse time is insignificant.
There are some encoders that *may* skip this step. The Zend Encoder (for a
fee) is one of them. You can search the archives for another free one.
