what? well... Either you load the whole database into your PHP script;)
or... there is a programming failure in your scripts (loops, etc), which
I would consider to be the case here... It looks like the script is never
ending and therefore it doenst free up memory...

*g* Memory and disk I/O are always bottlenecks. The server capacity
obviously depends on what you are serving. but I assume you'd be able to
serve 1000 simultaneous connections on a P60 with 64MB RAM (serving
static pages...)

PS: btw: also check your Kernel - I know only from linux, but a standard
kernel is probably not able to serve 1000 connections.
