What happens when you use sendmail as any other user? If it doesnt work, Id
suggest your sendmail isnt quite configured correctly.
It should be setup with permissions so that it looks a little like this
-r-sr-sr-x root bin xxxxx month day year sendmail
That way no users can sneak looks at other users mails, but they can still
send mails.
