nothing works with php4

I downloaded manuals from php.net and I try to find diffrences between 3 and
4 version.
but I also thought that basics script could be the same

everything worked fine with php3 after changing the version
all the time "wrong username or pass"
Is there any document with detailed diffrences between 4 and 3.
Which functions changed and etc
