We use htmldoc for PDF generation regularily on unix + windows. It works a
treat as long as you are happy with PDF files that have the same limitations
as HTML ('cept you can control page breaks)
Just a guess but is it possible to compile your own pdflib.so on the hosting
companies machine and use a dl() call like yuou do in windows?

you might try this:
http://www.easysw.com/htmldoc/
if you can get it installed there is a CLI you could do system() calls
to. Might not be real elegant powerful but hey.
Please let me know if you have any luck (good or bad) - I am planning on
going down the same road in a few weeks.
