I have an app that runs on one NT box and queries MSSQL on another. I prefer to use ODBC rather than the MSSQL interface because of the portability of ODBC. In this case, the PHP script doesn't care where the database is, you set up the System DSN and designate the remote server name. The ODBC driver takes care of the connection. Just make sure that whatever login user and password that you use in the DSN has all of the priveleges that you need on the SQL server.
