How secure? I don't want "As secure as possible!" as an answer.
Encryption technology trades convenience for security.
If the security requirement is just to keep "average" people out, then
look at "encrypt/decrypt". After that, there's the mcrypt_ functions
which can (probably) withstand attack by the NSA.
