what you should be doing is compiling with a fresh source tree of mysql (or fresh binary distro) --with-mysql=/usr/local/mysql. That will force the compile to NOT use the client that is included with php4. You only need this (/usr/local/mysql) to compile the PHP4, it won't need it to run and that won't be the DB that it will try to connect to. It only has to be there so that it can find the includes and library files that it needs. Remember, when you are done, mysql_connect('the.other.machines','',''); (I think) you can once PHP is compiled, delete the /usr/local/mysql directory (I haven't done it in a while to know for sure... so you'll want to check) Then you should be set. -jeremy brand _______________________________________________________________________ GnuPG Fingerprint: 9F5E 95E0 1CC2 E054 84EA 6099 8ACD 9DBA D2C0 5EA9 _ http://www.JeremyBrand.com/Jeremy/Brand/Jeremy_Brand.html for more __ On Sun, 20 Aug 2000, Mike Goelzer wrote: > Date: Sun, 20 Aug 2000 12:43:41 -0400 > From: Mike Goelzer <mwglists@dailyjolt.com> > To: PHP General <php-general@lists.php.net> > Subject: [PHP] PHP4 + mod_auth_mysql Problems > > Is anyone else trying to use the combination of PHP4 + mod_auth_mysql?
