downloading - not parsing

One more question regarding files
if I have an attachment directory that I would like people to be able to
download files from - how could I prevent the file from being parsed? For
instance - if I send tommy an email with an attachment called
nastyinfiniteloop.php - how could I make it so that the template is
downloaded and not parsed by the server. If I take away execute priviledges
from the directory - I just get "page cannot be displayed". Any
suggestions? thanks.
