Possibly due to the nature of cookies, and the fact that they're only
available to the domain in which they're set.
I can't really be bothered going and looking up the cookie spec right now,
but you'll possibly find that you can't set a cookie for a domain name, then
use that same cookie by using the IP address of that domain name instead of
the domain name itself, and vice versa.
