Question about Launching and Application with PHp

Greetings All, In PHP (version 4) I am running a script locally on my own hard drive. It is going to be staying this way. What I want to be able to do it to click on a link on a php page. This link would open a file locally on my hard drive and execute the file, so that this particular file will then launch the appropriate application and play back. Is this even possible with PHp and if so how would I go about doing it? Thanks -- Phillip S.
