What's wrong with classes? The classes in PHP are almost exactly like C
structs; very useful for data encapsulation and OO design -- not quite the
functionality I'd like, but their simplicity keeps PHP quick while giving
it a bit of OO functionality.
And no, I don't know of any PHP email client that doesn't use classes.
