Sounds like someone is a C stalwart who couldn't pass C++ class.
Object-oriented programming does not necessarily make things more
complicated. It streamlines the development process, makes debugging
easier (yes, easier), enforces encapsulation, and makes scaling much
easier (and lots more).
I develop in Java all day, and I would never, ever do what I do in a
non-OO language like C. It would take forever.
You should open your eyes and see that OO is everywhere; plus, if you knew
anything about OO, you would know that PHP is not an OO language. PHP
classes *are* plain-old PHP. They are not truly object-oriented -- not by
a long-shot! They most resemble C structs, from what I can tell.
