I'm still no further on solving this problem. I tried a variation on the
code below, but it too failed. I really believe that the code is fine and
that the problem has to do with the httpd. What are the known reasons that
PHP would not write session data to the session file?

I'm having a problem getting PHP to store session information. The problem
appeared after upgrading to 4.0.1pl2. The code works with the old daemon,
and as far as I can tell there are no differences between the compiles of
the two daemons.
This is the code I'm using to test sessions:
<?
session_register("testvar");
echo "[" . $testvar . "]<br>";
$testvar = 100;
?>
PHP is creating the session file in /tmp, however it never writes any
values to the file. If I manually place "testvar|s:3:"300";" in the file
it will display [300] but still does not write the new value for testvar
to disk.
phpinfo() shows that both register_globals and track_vars are enabled.
FreeBSD 3.4-20000214-STABLE
Apache 1.3.12
PHP 4.0.1pl2
'./configure' '--with-apache=../apache_1.3.12'
'--with-mysql=/usr/local/mysql'
'--prefix=/httpd/apache' '--with-config-file-path=/httpd/apache/conf'
'--with-xml'
'--with-gd=/opt/src/gd1.2/' '--enable-track-vars'
Suggestions are welcome.
