How about changing your post method to 'post' instead of 'get'?
Right now it looks like you do not declare the method at all so it defaults
to get.
<form name="login" action="<?echo $_SERVER["PHP_SELF"] ?>"
method=post>
And then of course you will have to us the $_POST['user'] instead of
$_GET['user']
