another option that might work is put the site header
in its own table. once the browser receives the full
table it can display it. In this header you could also
have an image (animated gif of some sort) and use the
onload event to change the image once the page has
loaded. (to a transparent gif or "search complete"
image). I think CNET used to do something like this
something like
<body onload="javascript:switchSearchImage();">
<table>
<tr>
<td>SITE NAME</td>
</tr>
</table>
<table>
<tr>
<td><img src=search_progress.gif id=progess></td>
</tr>
</table>
<? // query here ?>
<table>
<tr>
<td>
<? // loop / echo search results ?>
</td>
</tr>
</table>
