Mark,
If you build the CGI version, you will get a standalone binary. When you
run confiigure, just eliminate --with-apache or any other server-specific
option, and it will build the CGI verison by default. I find this useful
for debugging as well, as I sometimes have parsing errors that cause a
script to fail before it can output any text to the browser, and the
standalone version will usually reveal the "hidden" error message.
