For the record here is how I got it to work:
[geoff@vectrag php-4.3.1]$rm -rf config.cache
[geoff@vectrag php-4.3.1]$make clean
[geoff@vectrag php-4.3.1]$export LDFLAGS=-lstdc++
[geoff@vectrag php-4.3.1]$ ./configure --with-apxs=/www/bin/apxs
--without-mysql --with-mssql=/usr/local/freetds/ --with-dom
--enable-sockets --enable-wddx --with-xml-rpc --enable-track-var
--with-zlib-dir=/usr/local --enable-xslt --with-xslt-sablot=/usr/local
[geoff@vectrag php-4.3.1]$make
[geoff@vectrag php-4.3.1]$su
[root@vectrag php-4.3.1]$make install
[root@vectrag php-4.3.1]$apachectl graceful
phpinfo(); now show xslt support enabled whew!
Also, I tried putting LDFLAGS=' -lstdc++' in front of configure but that
didn't work for me
