Recent versions of PHP (4.2+ I believe) have register_globals set to off
by default. Could this be your problem? Try accessing your variable
through $_GET instead.
<?
echo $var;
echo $_GET['var'];
?>
http://www.php.net/manual/en/security.registerglobals.php
Although I would expect an "undefined variable: var" error rather than
an empty value.... so it may be another problem.
