No where particularily. Actually I've been tempted to write something on
the subject mainly because when doing web type programming you have to
deal quite a few different kinds of encoding. Some examples:
* HTML encoding for (see htmlspecialchars())
* URL encoding for passing variables between pages etc (urlencode()).
* Escaping special chars for SQL queries
* Escaping for passing data to external programs (shell escapes).
* Escaping stuff when building XML docs.
* Escaping stuff in strings when building Javascript code for pages. (C
string escape stuff).
It's important not just for keeping your stuff working reliably, but
also to avoid security problems. It's all a bit crazy.
just hope you don't have to deal with MIME too. :)
