Well, you need to get gd, install it, and build php --with-gd=/path/to/gd.. You can get the latest version at http://www.boutell.com/ However, the latest version doesn't support GIF because of patent issues on the compression algorithm. GD 1.3 was the last to do that, and it can be found, with instructions at: http://www.e-gineer.com/instructions/install-gd13-for-php-with-apache-on-linux.phtml I'm no gd expert, so if you want to do jpeg, and png, you may need the newer version of gd.
