I don't have a space in the actual scripts, I just typed it like that below (sorry about the confusion). The point is the scripts worked perfectly under PHP3 and have not been touched apart from changing the file extension from .php3 to .php. Some scripts will display HTML ok, but as soon as (apparently) a round bracket appears, crash! The message is always 'parse error expecting "(" on line x', where x is the first line of php code to contain a round bracket. I did nothing unusual in my configuration, just --with-mysql --with-apxs --enable-track-vars Anyway, it *is* pretty weird and pretty annoying. _______________________________ Why do you have a space in phpinfo() between the brackets ? Cant find a reason to have. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Michael Hall" <mulgaweb%mulga.com.au@octa4.net.au> To: <php-general@lists.php.net> Sent: Thursday, August 31, 2000 4:16 PM Subject: [PHP] Re: php4 brackets parse error > Well, I'm not absolutely certain, but I don't think the following have > changed their syntax have they?: > > phpinfo( ); > include ( ); > > If there is a change, it's sure hard to find any reference to it. > > One script which invokes a 'parse error expecting "(" on line 2' message is > as simple as: > > <?php > phpinfo( ); > ?> > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: Chris Murley <murley@appindex.net> > To: Michael Hall <mulgaweb@mulga.com.au> > Cc: <php-general@lists.php.net> > Sent: Thursday, August 31, 2000 10:46 PM > Subject: Re: [PHP] php4 brackets parse error > > > > Are you sure that php4 syntax didnt change for some of the functions you > > are using? > > > > On Thu, 31 Aug 2000, Michael Hall wrote: > > > > > Sorry folks, but I've really looked hard through the manual and archives > > > about this one, to no avail: > > > > > > I've just upgraded to PHP4 ... now all my PHP3 scripts (extensions > changed > > > to .php) crash with a parse error ... expecting ''('' ... > > > seemingly > every > > > time round brackets are encountered, eg. include ( ) and phpinfo( ). > > > > > > What have I missed? > > > > > > Mulga Mick > > > > > > > > > -- > > > PHP General Mailing List (http://www.php.net/) > > > To unsubscribe, e-mail: php-general-unsubscribe@lists.php.net > > > For additional commands, e-mail: php-general-help@lists.php.net > > > To contact the list administrators, e-mail: php-list-admin@lists.php.net >
