Please don't PGP-Sign messages to the list - a lot of the clients
(including my Eudora) will let you only read this after a connection to a
keyserver. And replying becomes a nightmare.
You said you have solved the problem - how did you do it? I mean I do know
how to handle HTML mail, but it's tricky as soon as it comes to images...
I heartily recommend PEARs Mail and Mail::mime classes for this job. You
can quite nicely create plain, html, and mixed mailings, including embedded
images (sent with the mail, not referenced). We're doing a couple of
automated customer mailings with this (some thousand recipients), and it
works extremely well.
