Now that I think, .. there can be implemented a function called sleep()
Try to read about it... maybe you can use that...
For how long do you want to freeze the process?

I'm not very lucky with the JS-solution, but yout solution only works with a
loop and I got no (see above). Any other ideas for a php-solution ?
