Gzip'ed HTML - any resolution?

I've dug through countless posts regarding gziped HTML, with no solution in
site. Chris Adams had a site with some gzip info that seems to be down.
Anyone have a handle on something this useful and cool?
Microsft's got it built in to IIS, it is amazing, one click and you are
set... would like to be able to do the same thing from within PHP (yes, I am
aware of apache and the perl solution).
