session_destroy() does not work

Hi everyone!
Sessions do work fine, except session_destroy(). PHP prompts with the
warning "Session could not be destroyed". What could be possible reasons
that session_destroy() does not work?
I am using PHP4.0.2 CGI version and the session is started before I want to
close it...
