not sure why you need to specify the encoding. When I was messing about
with font encoding some time ago I found that it caused more trouble than
it was worth - most of the time I couldn't get the Chinese characters to
display properly - so now I don't specify any encoding at all. Most of
the Chinese enablers (RichWin, TwinBridge, NJStar etc) can auto detect
the encoding. For example as a test:
<? echo "§A¦n¶Ü? << some BIG-5 encoded Chinese text"; ?>
displays perfectly using Win98 + RichWin (I'm not sure how it fares under
Chinese Windows though). You can view the above here:
