Mail setup problem

Hi there, I'm sure this question must have been asked before, but I couldn't find it anywhere, so here goes: I am on a LAN hosted by an NT domain. The firewall for the domain also doubles as a mail server (linux). The problem is I don't know how to set up my smtp variable that lets me mail from a user account on the network as I have a pop3 account on the linux box. I have win98 with pws installed on my machine, where I do my web-development, and I don't know too much about smtp. How can I configure my php.ini file so that my mail is sent using the linux box.
