Hi all,
I'm looking to develop a dating / profiles database for my
community users (who're writing to me everyday demanding
such a service!), and was looking at the long term design
aspects.
While the facility should allow people to search for others
based on their interests, I want to make it like a profile,
to encourage more people to register, not just those
looking to meet others. Eventually I hope to develop this
into a registration system for the site
(http://www.snooplife.com).
Now I'm fairly new to database development using MySql and
PHP, but I've edited and written a few basic scripts. This
project shal be a big and hair tearing exercise, but I will
probably release the package as open source after if people
want it.
I've read about database normalisation and using seperate
tables interlinked so that information can be categorised.
Should I be using this? Any relevant links / articles?
Can people please offer me advice on possible pitfalls as
well as the database design tips which I can use for such a
service?? Are there any existing packages which I might be
able to modify??
ANY help would be appreciated!!
Thanks in advance!
/sunny
