Hey guys, I'm developing a small website for a non profit organization and i need some input from you guys on whether I should learn PHP or some other language for the project i'm doing. This project should be completed in around 150-200 hours (before Christmas break) and is part of my internship study at Syracuse University. The website that i have created is up here: http://web.syr.edu/~iypoon , please take a look as it relates to the questions i have. Anyway, what i plan on doing is creating an "Administrative Interface" for the website. What i want the interface to do is to allow several people to make several specific changes to the website without delving into the HTML code, as the people who are part of this organization are not very knowledgeable about HTML, among other computer related things. One of the main functions that i want to allow the 'administrator' to do is add news under the community news without going into the HTML. So the admin would just fill in a form with the news that he/she wanted to post up and click a button and the news would be added into the HTML file with the correct table/color formatting, like it looks like on the main page right now. I also want add a search function using PHP for the site. Ok here are the questions: 1) Under the time constraints, do you think it would be possible for me to learn and implement the PHP code within the 150-200 hours timeframe? Note: i learned the C programming language a couple years ago, but i haven't used it since then... PHP looks somewhat familiar to me in regards to C. 2) I know PHP takes advantage of SQL databases, but I was wondering if it's possible to do this project without using a database. Instead of writing the News content to the database, could the PHP code just change add it to the HTML file? Note: I have no experience with databases, but am willing to learn if time permits. 3) Is PHP the best language for me to learn right now? I have no experience developing interactive/dynamic content for the web with any type of language.
