Install nedit. It has php syntax highlighting and it is available for
Linux like you want. It's also free, licensed under the GPL.

The PHP syntax highlighting comes from a separate file. You need to
install the highlight pattern from their website and off you go. This is
the best editor in my opinion, even better than Homesite, because it is
very fast. The only thing that is missing is a directory file selector
like homesite has on the left side.
