You have to check what apache / php is running under. ie what user. Typically this is user www on a *nix box (well it is on mine ;) ) Probably that user hasn't got permissions to create files / directories in those places. You can fix this by telneting in as a user with sufficient permissions and changing the permissions on the directories to world writable. Eg telnet myhost.com <login> ... chmod -R 777 directories_to_change Note that this is a security risk. The better way is to explicitly give the user your webserver / php is running under access to create directories. Have a look at your /etc/passwd file for the users current permissions, and ask your system admin to give the relevant permissions. (This should point you in the right direction). I only received one message from someone who also had the problem. I need to be able to mkdir using php rather than doing it manually through ftp. Has anyone got any ideas on why php isn't letting me create a directory. I'm using the following mkdir("/home/site/web/temp", 0700); php returns a false and a permission denied error message. the server is using php 4.0.1.pl2 as an apache module on a linux server. I'd appreciate any suggestions anyone can give me to fix this problem. oh, I'm having the same problem on two other linux redhat based systems also. -- Regards Nick nallan@wdev.net -- PHP General Mailing List (http://www.php.net/) To unsubscribe, e-mail: php-general-unsubscribe@lists.php.net For additional commands, e-mail: php-general-help@lists.php.net To contact the list administrators, e-mail: php-list-admin@lists.php.net
